——Cancer immunotherapy, Pioneer wins international award
The Gairdner International Prize is the most prestigious award in the biomedical field. It is regarded as a preparatory award for the Nobel Prize and is used to reward scientists who have made significant contributions in the field of improving the quality of human life.
The 2014 Canadian Gairdner Awards were announced by the Gairdner Foundation on March 26, Canada time, including the Gairdner International Award, the Global Health Award and the Whiteman Award list. This year's Gairdner International Prize is awarded for medical discoveries in cardiovascular disease, cancer, immunotherapy, and human parasitic diseases.
Titiade Lange, professor at the American Cancer Society, James P. Allison, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Harold Fisher Dvorak, Harvard Medical School, and Napoleone Ferrara, Moores Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego, two Sir Marc Feldmann and the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology at Oxford University RavindeRNAthMaini received this year's Gairdner International Prize; Global Health awarded to Satoshi Omura, Professor Emeritus, School of Drug Discovery Sciences, Kitasato University, Tokyo. The Whiteman Award goes to Salim Yusuf, a professor of medicine at McMaster University.
